Overview
Amboseli National Park famous for its views of large elephants herds is located 160 miles from Nairobi. It offers stunning view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. As well as its famously photogenic elephants, Amboseli is also home to heavyweight predators like lion, leopard, hyena and cheetah, as well as their prey such as buffalo, giraffe, impala, zebra, cheetah, giraffes and antelope.
Amboseli boosts rich bird life, with over 400 bird species recorded, including the globally threatened Madagascar Pond-Heron, Lesser Flamingo, Lesser Kestrel, and Possibly Africa’s most sought-after bird, the Shoebill which has a one-time record in the area and over 40 birds of prey.
Tsavo West offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world and attractions include elephants, rhinos, Hippos, lions, cheetahs, leopards, Buffalos, diverse plant and bird species including the threatened corncrake and near threatened Basra Reed Warbler.
Visit attractions such as Mzima Springs to watch the hippos bathing underwater, visit the Lava flows and caves for geological interest; explore the caves, or hike along with the lava flow.
The cliff faces in Tsavo West offer some of the best rock climbing in Kenya.
